The annual banquet of the Manitowoc County Lakes Association took place on Friday, October the 13th, hosted by Dan Dufek and the Larrabee Sportsman’s Club, who provided a delicious broasted chicken dinner and great company. Directions: Boot Lake Road, Town of Rockland. Take County Highway JJ West from Manitowoc, through the un-incorporated area of Collins. Continue West on County Highway JJ approximately 4.5 miles to Long Lake Road. Travel north 1.5 miles to Boot Lake Road. East on Boot Lake Road .5 miles to driveway.

Recreation
- Features: Long Lake County Park occupies 4.5 acres on the northeast shore of this 117 acre lake. The park provides public access for boating and fishing and has been developed into an attractive picnic area. Facilities located here include a boat launch ramp, pier, fishing pier, picnic tables, grills, playground equipment and a toilet building. Lighting is present. A small open area is available for recreation activities.
Northern pike, large mouth bass, walleye, perch, white bass, bullhead, crappie, bluegill and pumpkinseed can be fished from shore or boat. Long Lake is also a popular spot for ice fishing. - Boat Ramp: Paved ramp, 7% slope, 3 ft launch depth, boarding dock.
- Launch Fee: The daily fee is $5 and the seasonal fee is $20.
- ADA Accessibility Features: Yes. The boarding dock, route of travel and restroom are all ADA accessible.
- Restrictions: Slow/no wake from 6pm to 11am. Fast boating allowed 11am to 6 pm. No wake rules and counter clockwise operation in effect at all times. Operating restrictions on motor boats and waterskiing are posted at the access. Read the Wisconsin handbook

- Secchi Disk: Average summer reading = 1.8 ft. (SE Georegion average 6.2 ft.)
Summer (July/Aug) water was reported as CLEAR and GREEN.
This suggests that the secchi depth may be mostly impacted by algae. Algal blooms are generally considered to decrease the aesthetic appeal of a lake because people prefer clearer water to swim in and look at. Algae are always present in a balanced lake ecosystem. They are the photosynthetic basis of the food web. Algae are eaten by zooplankton, which are in turn eaten by fish.
- Chemistry:
Average summer Chlorophyll 64.2 µg/l (SE Georegion average 24.7 µg/l).
Average summer Total Phosphorus 95.9 µg/l.
May experience noticeable algae blooms.
- Trophic State Index (TSI): 66/Eutrophic. What does this mean?
Eutrophic lakes are high in nutrients and contain large populations of plants, algae, and fish, which often grow to nuisance levels, and the fish species are generally tolerant of warm temperatures and low oxygen conditions. Phosphorus can fuel algae blooms. This TSI usually suggests blue-green algae become dominant and algal scums are possible, extensive plant overgrowth problems possible.

Is there camping available or nearby the Long Lake?
Thank you for asking. Camping is not allowed in the county park at the lake. You might be interested in Camp 10 campground, which is nearby. Their website is https://www.camp10campgroundllc.com/
Do you know where to find how many square feet of frontage is required to build a dock on long lake?
Because these are legal questions it’s best to contact the correct people in DNR for clarification. Our local DNR staff are not comfortable answering regulation details; I was told that this authority has been transferred to the Madison office.

Are there any restrictions on motor boating on Sunday’s? In other words, can you motor boat on Sunday?
Hi Don, Sorry for the delay—we wanted to double check with our Long Lake rep.Here’s what he confirmed: Fast boating is allowed on Long Lake on Sundays from 11AM to 6PM. The slow no wake time on Long Lake is 6PM to 11AM. Counter clockwise operation is in effect at all times. Also be aware that the operation of any boat to create large wakes is prohibited. Hope this answers your question!
