Condition

North Twin Lake: GOOD (based on 2015 data)

  • Secchi Disk (2015): The average summer secchi disk reading was 11.5 feet. Southeast Georegion average in 2015 was 7.1 feet. Typically, the north lake’s summer water was reported as CLEAR and BLUE.
  • Chemistry: Not available.
  • Trophic State Index (TSI) (2015): 42/Mesotrophic. Mesotrophic lakes are characterized by moderately clear water, but have a increasing chance of low dissolved oxygen in deep water during the summer.

South Twin Lake: FAIR (based on 2015 data)

  • Secchi Disk (2015): The average summer secchi disk reading was 5 ft. SE Georegion average in 2015 was 7.1 feet. Typically, the south lake’s summer water was MURKY and BROWNThis suggests that the secchi depth may have been mostly impacted by suspended sediments, tiny particles of soil or organic matter that are suspended in the water.
  • Chemistry (2015): Not available.
  • Trophic State Index (TSI) (2015): 54/Eutrophic. Based on secchi, not chlorophyl. This TSI usually suggests decreased clarity, fewer algal species, oxygen-depleted bottom waters during the summer, plant overgrowth evident, warm-water fisheries (pike, perch, bass, etc.) only. To calculate true TSI, chlorophyll should be measured. A limited number of grants are available to expand lake monitoring to this level if you are interested (contact your Region Coordinator for more info).
