MCLA Annual Banquet held on Friday Oct. 13, 2023

The annual banquet of the Manitowoc County Lakes Association took place on Friday, October the 13th, hosted by Dan Dufek and the Larrabee Sportsman’s Club, who provided a delicious broasted chicken dinner and great company. MCLA members stepped up to provide an abundance of door prizes.

The Annual Lake Stewardship awards were presented at the meeting.

Peggy Lenz was recognized for her many years of leadership, enthusiasm, and determination to the improvement of water quality and the natural scenic beauty of Pigeon Lake. She was nominated by Maria Lynch.

Doug and Elaine Kieffer of Carstens Lake were honored for over 40 years of dedicated maintenance of the weir dam on their property and its value and improvement to the Carstens Lake fishery. They were nominated by Brian Robley.

The guest speaker at the banquet, Eric Olson, Director at Extension Lakes, engaged the membership with his presentation about Lake Leaders Institute program and how to become a Lake Leader.

The Lake Leaders Institute was developed in 1998 to develop a pool of committed and prepared leaders who can assume leadership roles in policy development, citizen advocacy, county-wide lake associations like MCLA, municipal government, and officer positions in the 900+ individual lake organizations throughout the state. Graduates benefit themselves and their communities by connecting with those responsible for Wisconsin’s lake and water management, and by learning more about aquatic ecology, water law and lake management.

The program takes place every other year and is divided into three 2-day sessions scheduled for May, Sept and Oct, held in lake-rich areas around the state. Participants take field trips, enjoy lake and aquatic environments, exchange ideas and network with each other and presenters, and develop friendships with go-to colleagues for future lake work.

If you are interested, you may nominate yourself or someone else to the program by February 1, 2024 using this form.
